History of OTM

In the mid-eighties a group of transport users from different companies decides to start a association to share knowledge and experience and to find solutions for common issues. Although this was a regional initiative at first, on may 4th, 1989 a nation wide organisation was officially formed named OTM which stands for “Organisation of Traffic Manager”. Later this name was gradually replaced with the “Belgian multi-modal shippers association” as more and more users of all transport modes joined in.

A lot of companies realise the increasing importance for controlling the complete "supply chain". We are all "partners" in the various flows of goods and as such an open dialogue is more than ever necessary. For this reason OTM have chosen to open the association for shippers and service providers alike, without disavowing the characteristic property as a "shipper and principal".

Every organisation expects added value from it's manager towards optimisations and cost control. We are convinced that the function "logistical or Traffic manager" can offer an added value in designing solutions for transport concepts, marketing, purchasing, cost follow up, customs authorities, goods insurance, etc... This wide range of activities contains certainly elements where much can be optimised. An efficient and sustained cost control can make an important contribution to the total company result.

In the years that OTM has existed, it has become a well known and well respected organisation that is sought out by many for it's knowledge and expertise. It has been recognised that this practical knowledge can bring just the added value companies are searching for. We try constantly to expand this recognitions with national and European governments and professional organisations alike. It is the task of OTM to make sure the needs of the shippers are heard.
