Press Release
ESC gets closer to Meps
14 August 2001
The European Shippers' Council, which represents the interests of transport users from across the EU, has today (14 August) moved its Brussels office to the Park Leopold building, right next door to the European Parliament (EP).
The relocation will let ESC lobby MEPs more effectively. The European Parliament's role in EU decision making has grown enormously under new rules brought in last year.
Chris Welsh, ESC's Secretary General, explained 'Recent changes within the decision-making structure of the EU means that the Parliament is more powerful than it has ever been. At the same time, the EP will be discussing some major issues in the near future - the Access to Port Services Directive, transport corridors, and the Common Transport Policy. All of these require a strong shipper voice, that is why we have moved here.
